The College’s mission Excellence in Further and Higher Education and reputation as a leading provider of education and skills in the Tees Valley is enhanced and underlined by the judgements of external quality agencies. November 2009 witnessed an OfSTED inspection and it deemed the College’s overall effectiveness as ‘good’. It commented that the College’s learners made good progress and that the College had a good quality of provision. One area where the College excelled was its work with employers; this was judged as ‘outstanding’.
In March 2010 and 2011 the College’s Higher Education provision came under the Quality Assurance Agency’s (QAA) Integrated Quality Enhancement Review (IQER). The IQER focused on the College’s procedures, policies and practice in terms of the teaching, learning and assessment of its university-level provision. The review was undertaken with the other colleges in the Tees Valley and the review identified many areas of good practice. Additionally, the College’s Higher Education students complete the annual National Students Survey (NSS) and the latest results (2010) highlight that the overwhelming majority of the College’s HE students were satisfied with their HE experience.
The College also has the Training Quality Standard (TQS) Part A and Part B for Excellence in Engineering, Construction and Building Services. The Training Quality Standard recognises and celebrates the best organisations delivering training to employers. It also highlights high quality, high impact training, by looking at the College’s responsiveness, flexibility, expertise and commitment to continuous improvement.
2010 also witnessed the College retaining its Matrix quality standard for Information, Advice and Guidance (IAG) Services. This is a national standard designed to assist providers to identify and follow best practice in the delivery of IAG. It defines the outcomes of a quality service whose aim is assisting individuals to make use of information, explore issues and plan courses of action in relation to learning and work. The Standard focuses on key activities relating to the delivery of the service and its effective management.
