RESPECT

Respect for Everyone

The College is proud of the high standards of accommodation, equipment and service to the community. Respect involves everyone who works or studies in the College. As always, RESPECT has been involved in some high profile activities in the past academic year, in addition to its usual on-going work in promoting a variety of issues relating to tolerance, understanding, health and cultural awareness. The Big Picture also continues to play a large part of RESPECT, having tackled topics including British Values, the EU Referendum and Body Image, not only do we have the regular static display on our 3rd Floor exhibition space, we have also created a deticated online resource for us to share good practice and the important messages throughout the year, go to www.sharingthebigpicture.co.uk where you can find and download all of our resources, which are updated on a regular basis.

These are our values:

  • Being responsible and answerable for your actions.
  • Valuing each other’s opinions and perspectives.
  • Encouraging everyone to take care of the College.
  • Championing education.
  • Caring for others.
  • Being honest and open about what we do and the way we do it.

Safeguarding in Education
Hartlepool  College has a statutory and moral duty to safeguard the welfare of young people and vulnerable adults receiving education and training at the College. The College’s policy is that safeguarding all its people, both students and staff, will be central to all it does. This covers all matters connected with students and staff having a safe learning and/or working environment, ensuring that they know how to keep themselves safe and that they feel safe. It pays particular regard to the welfare of young people under the age of 18 and to that of vulnerable adults.

The PREVENT duty
The College now has a legal duty to highlight the dangers of radicalisation and involvement with violent extremist ideas. The Government call this the 'Prevent Duty'. The duty for Colleges and Universities was confirmed on 18 September 2015 and it is included within our Safeguarding responsibilities.  We are conscious to balance this with our responsibility to promote freedom of expression. It is not about preventing students from having political and religious views and concerns but about supporting them to use those concerns or act on them in non-extremist ways.

The Safeguarding Team can be contacted on 01429 404142
