Celebration of Achievement 2012

Hartlepool College of Further Education's Student of the Year - CALLUM HARKER (Sixth Form Student) with Barbara Old (Lecturer) and Martin Old (Head of Sixth Form) at the Celebration of Achievement Awards 2012. Hard-working students celebrated a year of success at Hartlepool College’s 19th Celebration of Achievement last Thursday.  Students’ success in all areas of college life were recognised and presented with awards.

TFM DJ Wayne Allen was the master of ceremonies and kept the proceeding light-hearted and flowing for just over an hour.  A host of awards were handed out and the top award of the evening went to Callum Harker who also scooped the award for Sixth Form Studies.

This year saw the presentation of three awards sponsored by the Gus Robinson Foundation.  The winner of the Apprentice of the Year was Aidan Spooner, the aerospace cadetships went to Elizabeth Newton-Smith and Jake Bellerby.  The Sporting Achievement Award went to Beverly Linighan from Oaksway Netball, which is one of the twelve members of the Hartlepool Sporting Association.  Damian Southworth, Chief Executive of Gus Robinson Developments was there to hand over the awards.

Also handing out special Awards were Ray Waller retired Chair of Governors, Alan Foster, Chief Executive of North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust, Terry Tucker, Principal Engineer Babcock Defence Division 100 Sqn and Yan Founde, Aerospace Programme Leader.

Professor Aidan Mullan, Chair of Governors made the first Chairman’s Award to a member of staff who not only gives everything to his career at College but give his time as a volunteer to help his local community.  The award was presented to Mark Barker for his part in rescuing Neil Robson from drowning last year with his team from the RNLI.  Darren Hankey, Vice Principal at the College commented that, “It was the first time we have done it and hopefully it will be something we do annually.  Mark demonstrated not only his excellence in the college, but what he did went above and beyond the call of duty and we just wanted to recognise that.”  The College will be making a donation to the RNLI.
