College has specs appeal
Heartlessly College of Further Education, in Stockton Street, is asking spectacle-wearers to donate their old glasses, regardless of the condition, to commemorate Holocaust Memorial Day on Friday, January 27th
Brian Barnes, who works for the college-based RESPECT Team which has organised the event said: "We're collecting glasses as a symbol to remember those that have suffered through the Holocaust, Genocide and persecution and to commemorate Holocaust Memorial Day'
"After the event is over, in partnership with Specsavers, we'll donate all the glasses to Vision Aid Overseas, which will then be recycled to help those in the third world with sight problems. We have collected almost 200 pairs already and we'd like to be able to collect a lot more. In any condition, they can all be recycled."
Brian said the glasses will be displayed in the College and videos in partnership with Holocaust Memorial Day Trust will be played on the College display screens, and in it's conference suite, throughout the day. If you would like to donate any old glasses, take them along to the College reception and they will be added to the collection.
Alternatively post them to: RESPECT Team, Holocaust Memorial Day 2012, Hartlepool College of Further Education, Stockton Street, Hartlepool, TS24 7NT.
