Teaching Excellence Framework - Silver Award

The TEF Panel reviewed our metrics and our submission according to the process and criteria specified in the their guidance. The HCFE metrics, supplemented by the submission, indicate that students achieve excellent outcomes. Very high proportions of students continue with their studies, and many go onto employment, further study or highly skilled employment.

The metrics indicate high levels of student satisfaction with teaching, academic support, assessment and feedback. The Panel considered the submission in relation to the TEF criteria and its judgement reflects in particular, additional evidence of:

  • high contact hours, small group teaching, individual target setting and attendance monitoring that provide high levels of engagement and commitment to learning and study from students
  • course design and assessment practices that provide scope for good levels of stretch, including the involvement of industry experts in teaching
  • a high quality physical environment that includes specialist facilities for subject-based learning
  • an effective institutional focus on retention and employability in the context of a challenging local labour market.

Overall, the TEF Panel judged that the combination of evidence in HCFE metrics and the HCFE submission best fits the descriptor for a Silver Award.
