Olympian and Student

Have you been inspired by the Olympic Games in Rio this summer? We have too, the Olympic Athletes have made it clear what hard work, determination, the right support and perfect environment can help you achieve.

We watched with pride and agony as our very own, Savannah Marshall, represented Team GB in the women’s middleweight boxing category.  After an impressive first round win over Sweden’s Laurell Nash, Savannah was agonisingly beaten by Dutch boxer, Nouchka Fontijn, in a fight that drawn further criticism for the boxing judges decisions .

The Foundation Degree in Sports Coaching student isn’t only an inspiration in the ring though as she has combined her Olympic preparations with a successful year in the classroom. Savannah said “I started here at Hartlepool College when I left school with the aim of forging a career in Sport and as I have matured I’ve always wanted to return to education to give me the knowledge and qualifications I need to succeed”.

After passing her first year with flying colours Savannah, The former Level 3 Sport student, will return this September to continue her studies. When asked how she has managed her busy timetable she said “I have balanced the classroom work here with my training camp commitments in Sheffield. I’ve also looked to study in and around my boxing, reading whilst travelling and writing assignments in my hotel room. I think if you want it badly enough, you find a way to make it work”.

Follow Savannahs example and start your journey now to the career of your dreams. Check out our course search to apply online or contact 01429 295111 for an impartial careers advice appointment.
