This Aerospace Engineering degree is designed for young or mature students who wish to graduate with an engineering degree and are qualified to A-Level standard or equivalent. The student requires knowledge and skills in subjects such as maths, science and fundamental engineering principles to proceed confidently through the degree programme.
A typical offer will be 280 tariff points from at least 2 A-Levels or equivalent, one of which must be in mathematics. Applications from suitably-motivated students with other equivalent qualifications are also welcomed.
Acceptable entry qualifications can include any combination of Level 3 qualifications (e.g. A/AS-Levels, BTEC Certificates/Diplomas with good grades completed after at least 12 years of education).
Over the three years of the B/Eng (Hons) Aerospace Engineering degree programme, you will study a range of mathematics and engineering modules, and of course, aircraft specific modules including aerodynamics, aircraft design, avionics and aerospace systems. You will also gain practical project, laboratory and employment skills to prepare for your future.
You are expected to attend a range of lectures, tutorials and hands-on laboratory/workshop sessions. Part of your programme also involves a substantial research-based project.
The programme provides a number of contact teaching and assessment hours (lectures, tutorials, laboratory work, projects, examinations, etc.) but you are also expected to 'self-study' to review lecture notes, prepare coursework assignments, work on projects and revise for assessments.
Your programme involves a range of assessments including coursework assignments and examinations.
Most students who join an aerospace engineering programme do so because of their passion for flight and engineering - a combination that is both enjoyable and rewarding in terms of career prospects. The high specifications and standards in aircraft design and construction allows the aerospace engineering post graduate to consider employment in a wide variety of other and equally challenging engineering disciplines, such as renewable energy, sub-surface technology and advanced transport industries.
If you wish to, you can spend a year on an industrial placement where you will have the opportunity to gain relevant professional experience to enhance your technical knowledge which can improve your employment prospects.
