There are no formal entry requirements to access this course.
This course is designed around the needs of the learner. Nationally recognised qualifications in adult literacy from Entry Level to Level 1 are available. The programme consists of a confidential interview followed by a thorough assessment of needs. The tutor and learner then develop an individual plan of study to be followed.
In order to help you achieve your learning aims you will have the support of experienced tutors and access to a range of learning opportunities. Up to date resources such as a virtual learning environment to carry out online learning, traditional paper-based resources and access to the Learners' Resource Centre.
Compulsory Units
- You will be working towards a Functional Skills qualification in reading, writing and speaking and listening at an appropriate level. Your progression towards this goal is measured by the achievement of your individual learning plan.
For the Adult Certificate in Literacy course, assessment tasks are dependent upon the level of course you are accessing. For entry level, assessment is through end assignments in reading and writing. A speaking and listening assessment will be in the form of an informal and formal discussion.
For level 1, assessments are by sitting externally set tests in reading and writing. There are two tasks in the speaking and listening units.
Students will progress on to a national qualification at the next level.
