Target audience 

This programme is designed to provide opportunities to progress onto Level 2 qualifications in either ICT, Art and Design or Business. Students will develop a range of skills and techniques, personal skills and attributes, which are essential for successful performance in working life. It also provides opportunities to progress in other vocational areas across the College for those who have not yet decided on a specific sector to follow.The L1 Diploma IT and Creative Pathway is validated by Aim Qualifications.

Entry requirements 

Students enrolling to this course must attend an informal interview. For learners who have recently been in education, the profile is likely to include one of the following:

  • An Entry 3 qualification
  • A standard of literacy and numeracy supported by a general education equivalent to four GCSEs at grades 1-3
  • Other related qualifications
  • Related work experience
Applicants must be aware that if students do not have a GCSE grade 4 or above in Maths and/or English, they will have to undertake further study in these subjects as part of their programme of study in addition to the main 'core' qualification.
Course content 

This course consists of units such as: 

  • Art and Imaging Software;
  • Internet Safety for IT Users;
  • Using the Internet;
  • Email Skills;
  • Word Processing Software Skills;
  • Self Development;
  • Career Planning;
  • Desktop Publishing Software Skills;
  • Teamwork Skills;
  • IT Communications;
  • IT User Fundamentals and Presentation Software Skills
Students will also gain transferable skills, manage time, take responsibility for their own work and become self-reliant.  There is an expectation that students will work in their own time to complete the necessary reading, homework and assessment tasks.  Students will also take part in a taught tutorial and skills enrichment programme.
Teaching & Learning 

Through a combination of practical activities, written assignments, observations and reviews, the vocational qaulification provides the level one learner with the knowledge, skills and understanding needed for further progression.

Assessment criteria 

These qualifications are assessed through an internally set, internally marked and externally verified portfolio of evidence. Assessment is classroom based and consists of written and practical assignments, which are marked by the course tutor. All assessment is marked against Aim Qualifications assessment criteria. To achieve a 'pass' a learner must have successfully passed all the assessment criteria.

Progression 

On completion of the course, students may progress onto a further education course aimed at level 2 attainment.

Other information 

The college will recruit learners to Aim Qualifications with integrity. It is expected that students will make every effort to attend all sessions. Students must have a commitment to completing the course. Those students with work and/or family commitments should be aware of the duration of the course and the need to attend all classes.

The college will take appropriate steps to assess each applicant's potential and make a professional judgement about their ability to complete the programme of study successfully and achieve the qualification. This will include ensuring that applicants have appropriate information and advice about the qualification and that the qualification will meet their needs.

You are able to apply online for all courses, however to complete your course enrolment fully, you will need to have an interview and then be accepted onto a course.
