This course targets those students who wish to prepare for a career in the sports industry and aim to progress to a L3 Sport qualification but has not received the necessary grades of enrolment. Further options of progression are available to apprenticeship programmes.
Four GCSEs at grade 3 or equivalent qualification in a related subject area.
The content on this course covers a wide range of topics including Sports Injuries, The Body & Sport and Practical Sports Skills.
Students will develop their literacy and numeracy skills either through the completion of GCSE/Functional Skills qualification or through attending development sessions suitable to the public services. Opportunities to develop wider skills are encouraged through volunteering and enrichment opportunities.
This programme aims to combine theoretical and practical skills, bringing together the various elements of the topics mentioned above that are used within a sports environment. Students will be exposed to a variety of teaching and learning methods including classroom-based and practical sessions.
A variety of assessment methods are used including assignments, exams (GCSE/Functional Skills) and practical exercises. The use of video analysis, written feedback and peer observations are utilised to provide a more interactive assessment method.
There are two external exams that must be completed to assess progress in Training and Fitness and Anatomy and Physiology.
On successful completion of this programme, students can progress to the L3 Sport programme or a similar and suitable alternative.
Students will have the opportunity to participate in numerous enrichment activities that benefit their studies and make studying at college more enjoyable.
Options to complete additional qualifications such as First Aid, Coaching badges, fitness related qualifications etc., are also available.
