This course is appropriate for those who wish to have their experience of working in a care setting formally recognised.
No formal qualifications are required but you must currently be working in a care setting/care service in a Level 2 role. It is usual that you will have at least six months experience of this type of work prior to joining the course. An informal interview with the course tutor will provide you with further information and support prior to formal interview and enrolment. A letter from your employer confirming your position and duties will be required. Applicants must be at least 18 years old. All candidates must hold or undergo a DBS check.
A range of core modules are assessed including:
- Communicate with and complete records for individuals
- Support the health and safety of yourself and individuals
- Develop your knowledge and practice and ensure your own actions
- Support the care, protection and well-being of individuals
Plus at least two further optional units
To achieve an NVQ you must demonstrate both your skills and knowledge to an assessor and provide evidence to meet the standards. Support will then be given on an individual basis, where required, with portfolio building. The qualification usually takes 6 to 12 months to achieve depending on experience.
On completion the candidate can add further units for Continuous Professional Development. If the candidates responsibility in the workplace increases this would enable them to commence NVQ Level 3 Health and Social Care.
