Students enrolling to this course must attend an informal interview and have achieved at least a level one qualification.
Applicants must be aware that if students do not have a GCSE grade 'C' or above in Maths and/or English, they will have to undertake further study in these subjects as part of their programme of study in addition to the main 'core' qualification.
The college will take appropriate steps to assess each applicant's potential and make a professional judgement about their ability to complete the programme of study successfully and achieve the qualification. This will include ensuring that applicants have appropriate information and advice about the qualification and that the qualification will meet their needs.
The college will recruit learners to BTEC qualifications with integrity. It is expected that students will make every effort to attend all sessions. Students must have a commitment to completing the course. Those students with work and/or family commitments should be aware of the duration of the course and the need to attend all classes.
The level 2 Certificate in Workskills consists of a variety of units to prepare learners for work and to help develop literacy and numeracy skills
The Level 2 qualification in Workskills helps learners to improve their understanding and application of work-based skills. This vocational course teaches the knowledge, skills and understanding that are relevant, current and useful for both learners and potential employers. Learners have the opportunity to develop practical skills in a work based setting and also achieve a nationally recognised vocationally- related qualification.
Throughout the course, students are assessed through written and practical assignments, which are marked by the course tutor. Students will also complete a workplace log, which will be used as evidence for the course. To achieve a 'pass' a learner must have successfully passed all the assessment criteria.
On completion of this qualification, learners have the opportunity to progress to related general and/or vocational qualifications, or employment in a particular vocational sector.
Students will also learn to work as a team, manage time, take responsibility for their own work and become self-reliant. There is an expectation that students will work in their own time to complete the necessary reading, homework and assessment tasks.
