Target audience 

Suitable for anyone wanting to work with children between the ages of 0-7 years. This qualifies to count in the level 2 ratio as a qualified Level 2 Practitioner in the roles of:-

  • Nursery Practitioner
  • Classroom assistant
  • Pre School Practitioner
Entry requirements 
  • A DBS check will be necessary
  • A placement in an early years setting for two days every week is essential
Course content 

  • Roles and responsibilites of the Early Years Practitioner
  • Health and safety of babies and young children in the early years
  • Equality, diversity and inclusive practice in Early Years Settings
  • Safeguarding, protection and welfare of babies and young children in Early Years Settings 
  • Understand how to support children's development
  • Support care routines for babies and young children
  • Support the planning and delivery of activities, purposeful play opportunities and educational programmes
  • Promote play in an Early Years Setting
  • Support the well-being of babies and young children for healthy lifestyles
  • Support babies and young children to be physically active
  • Support the needs of babies and young children with Special Educational Needs and Disability
  • Promote positive behaviour in Early Years Settings
  • Partnership working in the early years
  • Support the needs of the child in preparing for school

 

 

 

Teaching & Learning 

  • learners will attend College one evening a week for the underpinning knowledge of the programme
  • learners will also need a practical placement for 2 days every week and collate a portfolio of evidence
Assessment criteria 

  • Learners will complete written assessment tasks for each unit
  • Learners will be assessed in the work environment by an assessor
  • Learners must successfully achieve both the written tasks and their practical experience in order to successfully complete the programme
Progression 

Progression to Level 3 Diploma for the Early Years Practitioner (Early Years Educator)

Other information 

  • All students will be required to complete a DBS check
  • There is an expectation that students will work in their own time to complete the necessary reading, homework and assessment work

Application & Enrolment

You are able to apply online for all courses, however to complete your course enrolment fully, you will need to have an interview and then be accepted onto a course.
