This course is aimed at learners who either want to progress onto the Extended Diploma in CBE (full-time) or are currently working as trainees, construction technicians or trade persons in the construction, civil engineering and building services engineering sector and waiting to progress to the HNC in Building or Building Services Engineering.
4 GCSEs at Grade 9 - 4, a relevant trade craft qualification (NVQ L3) and/or experience and a successful interview.
The award has been developed as a work related qualification reflecting the knowledge and understanding required in the construction, civil engineering and building services sector.

- Health, Safety & Welfare in CBE
- Sustainable Construction
- Mathematics in CBE
- Science and Materials in CBE
- Construction Technology and Design
- Surveying in Construction and Civil Engineering
- Graphical Detailing
The learner will complete six units providing a total of 60 credits. This qualification provides a 'bridge' progression route for those learners with suitable trade or craft qualifications and/or experience of working in the industry to higher education (HNC's) through gaining a vocational qualification in Construction and the Built Environment sector, or as a 'stepping stone' to the full time extended diploma.
Learners will complete coursework, research, written reports, presentations, test papers and practical exercises dependant upon the unit content as part of the assessment process.
Learners can progress into employment and/or further and higher qualifications such as Higher National Certificate in Building Studies, or Extended Diploma in CBE.
There is an expectation that learners will have good time management skills and work in their own time to complete the necessary reading, research and assessment work to be successful on this qualification. Learners will have the opportunity to participate in educational and/or residential visits.
