This qualification meets the needs of learners who work or want to work in a wide range of settings, for example in the roles of :-
- Early Years Educator
- Nursery Practitioner
- Possession of a relevant Level 2 appropriate qualification
- GCSE grades 9-4 in English and Maths
- 2 days placement in an Early Years setting (paid or voluntary) is essential
- A police clearance check will be necesssary
There are 17 mandatory units including:
- Developing effective Study Skills
- Promote partnership working with parents
- Model, promote and support positive behaviour with children
- Principles of safeguarding policies and procedures in early years settings
- Promoting diversity, equality and inclusion in the early years sector
- Working in partnership with colleagues and other professionals in early years settings
- Plan and implement activities, play opportunities and educational programmes in an early years setting
- Promoting children's health and welfare in an early years setting
- Promoting the health and safety of children
- Promote children's speech, language and communication development
- Support organisational requirements for recording, storing and disclosing information and providing reports in an early years setting
- Supporting children's creative and imaginative play and experiences
- Supporting children experiencing transitions and significant events in the early years sector
- Continuous professional development using reflective practice in the early years sector
- Theories which underpin practice in the early years sector
- Child development from conception to 7 years
- Observation and assessment in the early years sector
The Diploma will guide and assess development of knowledge and skills relating to Early Learning and Childcare. Learners will develop an in depth understanding and practise skills required for employment and/or progression in the Early Years sector.
A variety of assessment methods will be used including, written assignments, reflective accounts, witness testimonies, professional discussions and direct observations within practical settings.

There is an expectation that students will work in their own time to complete the necessary reading, reflection, evaluation, directed study, research and assessment. Please think carefully before undertaking a course of this nature as it is demanding and students will need to consider their work, family and other commitments.
