This is intended for post-16 learners who want to progress directly to self-employment in the health and fitness sector as a personal trianer.

Entry requirements 

English and Maths Grade 4-9

Course content 

12 units split over a 2-year period with 6 units in year 1 and 6 in year 2.  The units are:

YEAR 1

  • Careers in the Sport and Active Leisure Industry
  • Health, Wellbeing and Sport
  • Fitness Skills Development
  • Self-employment in Sport and Physical Activity
  • Business and Technology in Personal Training
  • Organising Events in Sport and Physical Activities

YEAR 2

  • Fitness Testing
  • Fitness Training
  • Ethical and Current Issues in Sport
  • Personal Trainer Skills Development
  • Research Project in Sport
  • Nutrition for Physical Performance
Teaching & Learning 

Teaching will be done through theory and practical sessions and learning through formative assessment and observations including demonstrations with high quality experienced staff.

  • Higher education
  • Personal training

Additionally, the breadth of optional content in the qualification allows learners to widen their opportunities to progress to a number of different higher-education courses.

Whatever course you choose, you'll get the highest level of training from specialist tutors, benefiting from their knowledge and experience of working not just in education but also in industry.

Application & Enrolment

You are able to apply online for all courses, however to complete your course enrolment fully, you will need to have an interview and then be accepted onto a course. The only courses available to enrol online are Full Cost courses, if you wish to enrol on any other course please call into Student Services or call 01429 295000.
