Students wanting to enter into the world of science industry or progress onto the National Extended Diploma in Applied Science.
Students are required to have 5 GCSEs graded at 4, or level 4 and above, including English, Maths and Science. Alternatively a Level 2 Diploma in Applied Science will also be accepted.
The course has a combination of units to be taught throughout the year, including the following:
- Principles and Applications of Science 1
- Practical Scientific Procedures and Techniques
- Science Investigation Skills
- Laboratory Techniques and their Applications
- Principles and Applications of Science II
- Contemporary Issue in Science
The course is taught by well qualified and experienced staff. You will learn through practical investigations, group work and presentations before completing assignments.
This is a nationally recognised qualification assessed through internal and external assessments. Internal assessments can include written pieces of work, presentations and practical investigations. All internally assessed units are assessed by the college and moderated by the awarding body. External assessment (two examinations) counts for 41% of the overall grade which will be graded as Pass, Merit, Distinction or Distinction*.
Students can progress onto the National Extended Diploma in Applied Science.
