This course is for learners 16-18 and 19+ (subject to interview) seeking a career as an employed or self-employed Hairdresser. This is aimed at students that have previously gained a Level 2 Hairdressing qualification.Throughout the course you will develop and enhance your creative hairdressing skills, learning to style and dress hair using your imagination, dexterity and flair to create artistic looks including advanced and complex cutting, provide colour correction services and dressing long hair on clients. As part of your qualification you will be required to complete a GCSE or functional skill in Maths or English.
Candidates must have a current Level 2 qualification in Hairdressing along with a successful skills test and interview.
This qualification has been specifically designed to develop and expand your practical skills to an advanced level, preparing you for employment as a senior hairdresser/stylist. Learners will develop their skills studying a wide range of units which include:
- Health and safety
- Client consultation
- Cutting
- Blow-drying and setting
- Colouring
- Promoting
- 2 optional units will be selected
Learners will be assessed in knowledge of theory through assignments, exams and oral questioning. Assessments consist of practical examinations on paying clients in a real working environment.
Students are required to provide clients for formative and summative practical examination purposes and develop a personal clientele to support their development and training. All hairdressing services will incur a charge. Evidence may also include photographs.
On successful completion of the Level 3 Hairdressing qualification learners can progress to the following courses:
- Level 4 Certificate in Hairdressing Management
- Level 4 Certificate in Colour Correction
- Level 4 Award in Advanced Hair Styling
- Assessors Awards
- Teacher Training
All learners are required to follow the industry codes of practice for salon dress. Learners will be required to purchase a uniform and a relevant hairdressing kit to support their studies. Financial support is available; see Student Services for details.
