This programme is designed to provide opportunities to progress to Level 2 qualifications in either ICT, Art and Design or Business. Students will develop a range of skills and techniques, personal skills and attributes, which are essential for successful performance in working life. It also provides opportunities to progress to other vocational areas across the College for those who have not yet decided on a specific sector to follow. The Level 1 Diploma is validated by Pearson Edexcel.
Students enrolling to this course must attend an informal interview. For learners who have recently been in education, the profile is likely to include one of the following:
- An Entry 3 qualification
- A standard of literacy and numeracy supported by a general education equivalent to four GCSEs at grades 1-3
- Other related qualifications
- Related work experience

Through a combination of practical experience, written assignments and reviews, the vocational qualification provides the Level 1 learner with the knowledge, skills and understanding needed for further progression.
Assessment during and at the end of each module is classroom based.Throughout the course, students are assessed through written and practical assignments, which are marked by the course tutor. All assessment is internally set and marked against Pearson Edexcel set criteria. To achieve a 'pass' a learner must have successfully passed all the assessment criteria.
On completion of the course, students may progress onto a further education course aimed at level 2 attainment.
The college will recruit learners to BTEC qualifications with integrity.It is expected that students will make every effort to attend all sessions. Students must have a commitment to completing the course. Those students with work and/or family commitments should be aware of the duration of the course and the need to attend all classes.

This will include ensuring that applicants have appropriate information and advice about the qualification and that the qualification will meet their needs.
