The purpose of the Access to Higher Education Diploma (Health Science Professions) is to prepare its students, many of whom have been out of education for a number of years and/or were not very successful in school, for a range of related progression routes into higher education. Therefore, the diploma assessment strategy is designed to offer an assessment plan which caters for a variety of interests and needs by including a wide range assessment tasks and methods (from more
practical assignments, such as posters and presentations, to more academic works such as essays and academic reports), which will offer all students the opportunity to acheive their full potential.
Learners must be 19+
No formal entry requirements however learners will be asked to complete a task as part of their stage 2 interview which will involve writing and numeracy.

The course is well rounded and covers all aspects of health. It is ideal for those wanting to pursue a range of healthcare professions as it provides the key knowledge and understanding required. The course aims to prepare learners for demands of HE.
This qualification is for learners 19+ who want to progress to Higher Education. This could be at a range of universities and degree apprenticeships.
Delivery will be classroom based in lecture style. The course does not have a mandatory placement; however it would be beneficial for those who do not have care experience to gain some voluntary work placement if possible. Guest speakers from universities and a range of healthcare roles will be invited in to give the learners first hand information.
The diploma is assessed using a number of assessment methods including:

The units are either graded or ungraded; however, ALL units must be completed in order to gain the full diploma. For graded units learners will achieve a Pass, Merit or Distinction. For ungraded units learners will Achieve or Not Achieve.
Graded units are linked to UCAS points which is important for university entry.
This qualification can lead to progression to a range of higher education courses in healthcare. It can also open doors for progression in healthcare jobs such as Healthcare Assistant.
There is an expectation that students will work in their own time to complete the necessary reading, homework and assessment tasks. Please think carefully before undertaking a course of this nature as it is demanding and students will need to consider their work, family and other commitments.
