Hartlepool College is one of the leading colleges in the Tees Valley, East Durham, and beyond for the provision of high-quality professional and technical education, and it is now seeking to recruit additional governors. The College’s history dates back to 1849 and its current mission is; Excellence in Further and Higher Education to Transform Students’ Lives.
The College has a vacancy on its Board of Governors for an individual from the FINANCE / AUDITING sector who has a strong commitment to further and higher education. Previous experience as a Trustee or Further Education governor is helpful but not essential.
Good oral communication skills, the ability to think and plan strategically, to monitor performance/outcomes, and interpret different forms of information are all necessary. All Governors are also expected to share a commitment to safeguarding and the health and safety of students and staff.
The role is unpaid but reasonable expenses can be reimbursed. Benefits of the role include helping to transform lives through education, working collaboratively with an enthusiastic group of governors, and gaining boardroom experience for personal and professional development.
A full induction process, including necessary technology training, will be provided on appointment followed by ongoing training and support.
Board meetings take place five times a year and there are committee meetings for those governors willing and able to join one or more of them. All meetings are held after 5.00 pm and generally last for between one to two hours. Commitment to attend meetings and engage with Board business is essential.
