Micheal Brackstone (26) a former English Martyrs School and Northern School of Art (formerly Cleveland College of Art and Design) Student, has recently been accepted into University of Aberdeen to study a Degree in Computer Science and starts this September after recently completing his Access to HE in Computing here at Hartlepool College.
Michael was formerly a manager for Royal Mail and continued to balance his work with the flexibile learning on the Access course.
Michael says; "I’ve always had an interest in coding and web design, I’m not quite sure how I ended up in the job I did to be honest. Progressing and doing well is great, until you realise you’re going in the wrong direction. I’d considered enrolling on the Access course a few years before but different commitments got in the way. In 2019 I took the jump, I never thought going back to Uni was even a possibility, but this Access course has put me on the right track. I’ll be travelling up to Aberdeen in September, and looking forward to eventually landing my dream job as a software developer. "
Steve Sowerby (IT Lecturer) commends Micheal; Lecturer Comments about Student (plus quote if possible): "Michael's rate of attendance was very high, and he was attentive and inquisitive in class. He demonstrated an excellent work ethic and undertook all tasks diligently and enthusiastically. The standard of Michael’s work was exceptionally high - comparable with the best we have seen from any student. He showed a real drive to excel, correcting and perfecting work even when he knew that this would not impact on the grade awarded to it."
Michael says; "The Access to Computing course at Hartlepool College, touches on so many areas in such a short time. No matter your experiences before, you’ll be fully prepared for University or finding a job in IT by the end of the year. I highly reccommend it".
