A programme of study aimed at those who wish to gain a specialist vocational qualification in the Computing, Digital, and IT sectors.
For learners who have recently been in education, the profile is likely to include one of the following:
- A BTEC Level 1 qualification in IT in a related vocational area
- A standard of literacy and numeracy supported by a general education equivalent to four GCSE's at Grade 3 or above
- Other related Level 1 qualifications
- Related work experience
The course is intended to allow work in computing and digital industries, with units such as:
Web Development, Multimedia Products Development and Software Development. These units build
a foundation for roles in Digital Marketing, Website Development and Software/Program Development
(including games design).
Technical units - such as Technology Systems and Installing and Maintaining Computer Sofware - prepare
you for work in the fields of IT Technician, Network Management and Cyber Security.
This Level 2 Extended Certificate in Information and Creative Technology is validated by Pearson Edexcel and
respected by employers.
Through a combination of practical experience and written assignments, these vocational qualifications provide level 2 learners with the knowledge, skills and understanding needed for a career in the sector.
Assessment at the end of most units is classroom/home-based, however there are two externally set online tests. All assessments are marked against Edexcel set criteria. Each unit is graded at either Pass, Merit or Distinction with an overall grade awarded on the successful completion of all modules.
This course is designed to support students to progress to Level 3 qualifications in Computing or Digital Multimedia
or to prepare for Computing and Digital apprenticeships.
The college will take appropriate steps to assess each applicant's potential and make a professional judgement about their ability to complete the programme of study successfully and achieve the qualification. This will include ensuring that applicants have appropriate information and advice about the qualification and that the qualification will meet their needs.
