College leavers and adults who wish to start their own creative business (18)+
There are no specific recommended prior learning requirements for this qualification. However, students may find it helpful if they have already completed A-Levels, Level 3 Diplomas, a relevant apprenticeship or they have relevant industry experience. UAL Awarding Body recommends that students have GCSE grade 4 or grade C (or an equivalent level 2 qualification) in both English and Mathematics.
The qualification is made up of the following three mandatory units:
Unit 1 - The Creative Entrepreneur
This unit introduces the fundamentals of enterprise that are necessary to kick-start a creative business venture. Students will deliberate how they can position and brand their creative enterprise business in a fiercely competitive marketplace.
Students will examine business models and will develop their skills in project management, health and safety standards, legislation, copyright laws, fundraising, budgeting, pitching, proposals, marketing and social media whilst also gaining an appreciation of creative and cultural policies.
The business focus of this unit will complement and support the students' creative research and development work undertaken in Unit 2.
Unit 2 - The Creative Practitioner
This unit will provide the student with the opportunity to define their artistic ambitions by researching, developing ideas and refining their creative practice.
Students will identify and distinguish market competitors directly operating within their chose field. Students will also cultivate their networking skills and start building a database of contacts as they start to engage with the industry.
Unit 3 - The Creative Enterprise
This unit requires the student to develop, formalise and present a sustainable creative enterprise business proposal and plan. The business plan will outline al the budgetary, legal, marketing and health and safety requirements whilst also contextualising the students' own creative practice within the wider creative industries.
On completion of the unit, students will have experienced planning appropriate with both their own practice and that of the other practicing artists within their specialised field.
This course will be delivered through a combination of classroom based and remote online sessions.
All units will be internally assessed.
Students completing the UAL Level 4 Professional Diploma in Creative Enterprise may progress to: Employment
Students completing this may also start their own business or progress to roles in the creative industries, such as:
- Freelance creative work
- Account management
- Creative agency positions
- Art Direction
- Talent management
Higher Education - the qualification will support students to develop a portfolio of work enabling them to progress to higher education courses.
