Major Masterclass in Hospitality and Catering

Back in mid January this year, our ace Hospitality and Catering students participated in the Major Series competitions held at New College Durham.

And we were delighted that our very own Hannah Lowes, currently studying a Foundation Degree in Culinary Arts with ourselves and Teesside University, won the winner of the Main Course Competition and also 'Best in Class' in this Regional Heat, which means Hannah will progress to the National finals, held in London in March this year.

Also over the moon that Olivia Gregory took Gold and 'Best in Class' in the Street Food category and the Cake and Bake class was Gold and Silver awarded to Bethany Hughes and Ash Lines, we also bagged some Bronze Medals in the same category for Isobel Stamp, Callum Barker, and Georgia Hutchinson.

Kevin Dove, Head of Hospitality and Catering here at Hartlepool College said "The students worked hard to prepare for the competition in a relatively short period of time and had to draw on their college experience and approach the challenge with enthusiasm and resilience. The students also did a lot of planning and preparation in their own time too which demonstrates the ethos of HARTS. Hannah was also massively supported by her employers the Peppermill Bistro which is based in Billingham and it is important to recognise the roles of the employer as a key investor in the students. We look forward to seeing Hannah go for the win in London whilst also enjoying the experience. All of the students that took part have been rewarded with a trip to London to support Hannah and also aspire to be the next finalist."

Winners Food Judging
Our other student winners on the day with Staff, another winning main course, and Major International representatives judging the competition.

Well done to all our Hospitality & Catering Students for taking part, Major International for Judging and of course our friends and New College Durham for hosting the event

What an amazing achievement and successful day it was, with more to come, including that trip to the National Finals at London Excel for Hannah on Monday 21st March, and we are wishing Hannah the best of luck.
