This course targets those students who wish to prepare for a career in one of the UK's public services, both uniformed and non-uniformed. Typically students may progress to a Level 3 qualification in Public Services to broaden the opportunities for employment and higher education.
Four GCSEs at grade 3 or an equivalent qualification in a related subject area.
The content on this course covers a wide range of topics including Health and Fitness, Career Planning and Leadership. Students will also have the opportunity to participate in a range of outdoor and physical activities through units such as Public Service skills and Land Based Navigation.
This programme aims to combine theoretical and practical skills, bringing together the various elements of the topics mentioned that are used within a public services environment.
Students will be exposed to a variety of teaching and learning methods including classroom-based and practical sessions.
Although this is an academic based vocational course there are weekly opportunities to participate in practical sessions throughout the programme in relevant areas such as the fitness suite, sports hall, playing fields and outdoor and adventure centres.
A variety of assessment methods are used including, assignments, exams (Functional Skills) and practical exercises.
On successful completion of this course, students can progress to the Level 3 Public Services programme.
Students will have the opportunity to participate in numerous enrichment activities such as overnight residential and day visits to various uniformed service organisations. Students will be required to purchase items of sports kit and stationery as part of the course. This programme can be combined with GCSE qualifications.
