Throughout the course you will develop your creative hairdressing skills, learning to style and dress hair using a variety of techniques, develop cutting skills and provide a range of colouring services to clients. As part of your qualification you will be required to complete a GCSE or functional skill in Maths or English.
4 GCSEs (at Grade 3)
This qualification has been designed to develop the knowledge, understanding and skills to prepare learners for employment as junior stylists. Learners will develop their skills studying a wide range of units which include:
- Health and safety
- Client consultation
- Shampooing and conditioning hair
- Cutting
- Blow-drying and setting
- Colouring
- Giving customers a positive impression of yourself
Students are required to study a Maths and English qualification to further develop their skills.
Candidates will be assessed in knowledge of theory through assignments, exams and oral questioning. Practical assessments consist of practical examinations and oral questioning. Students are required to provide clients for formative and summative practical examination purposes and develop a personal clientele to support their development and training. All hairdressing services will incur a charge. Evidence may also include photographs.
Upon gaining this qualification a wide variety of employment opportunities will be open to you within the hairdressing industry (see your course tutor for more information). On successful completion of Level 2 Hairdressing learners can progress to Level 3 Hairdressing (interview required).
All learners are required to follow the industry codes of practice for salon dress. Learners will be required to purchase a uniform and a relevant hairdressing kit to support their studies. Financial support is available; see Student Services for details.
