This one year course is for experienced teaching assistants or those working in a voluntary capacity in primary, special or secondary schools supporting teaching and learning.
- GCSE 9-4 in English and Maths or equivalent
- Students should be working in a school at a Key Stage (between 1 and 4) on either paid, voluntary or placement basis for a minimum of 2 days per week
- Level 2 Supporting Teaching & Learning in Schools, or equivalent/relevant qualification
Units include:
- Communication
- Behaviour management
- Safeguarding
- Schools as organisations
This programme is mainly practical and aims to bring together the various elements of the topics mentioned above that are used when assisting learning in schools. Students will be exposed to a variety of teaching and learning methods including classroom-based and practical sessions.
Written assignments, direct observations and written work products.
A Higher Education qualification (Foundation Degree, Degree or HNC/D) or employment as a Teaching Assistant
There is an expectation that students will work in their own time to complete the necessary reading, homework and assessment tasks. Please think carefully before undertaking a course of this nature as it is demanding and students will need to consider their work, family and other commitments.
