T-Levelling Up for Skills in Engineering and Manufacturing

Hartlepool College of Further Education is delighted to have been awarded capital funding to support the delivery of T-Levels*. The funding, through the Department of Education, is from the Buildings and Facilities Improvement Grant (BFIG) and helps Hartlepool College to continue to transform its students’ lives by providing a top-class education in learning environments and world-class facilities. 

It creates further opportunities to gain qualifications in engineering and manufacturing, which are crucial to the government's Levelling Up Agenda when there is a shortage of skills across the country.

Assistant Principal Gary Riches said:  "Although we already have exceptional facilities at Hartlepool College, we always want to improve and get better regarding what we can offer.  This capital funding allows us to do just that and we’re excited to get started so the equipment can be fully utilised as soon as possible.  As a College, we are constantly in contact with our employer-partners and monitoring labour market intelligence, so we’re delivering the right qualifications in the right sector areas to bolster the local, regional and national economy and meet the needs of the industry to try and close the skills gap."

The funding will allow Hartlepool College to bring to life the plans they have drawn up after consulting with over 100 of its employer-partners on its new curriculum strategy. These will help to create enhanced spaces for young people to learn, encourage collaboration and accommodate the employer-led activity.

* T Levels are new 2-year courses which are taken after GCSEs and are broadly equivalent in size to 3 A Levels. These courses have been developed in collaboration with employers and education providers so that the content meets the needs of industry and prepares students for entry into skilled employment, an apprenticeship or related technical study through further or higher education.

T Levels offer students practical and knowledge-based learning at a school or college and on-the-job experience through an industry placement of at least 315 hours – approximately 45 days.The courses are available at selected colleges, schools and other providers across England.
