Talented construction students hitting high standards again with industry experts

Our School of Construction and Built Environment really have something to shout about recently. Late last month we hosted the annual CIOB North East Student Challenge and came away with the NE award, yet again. A huge congratulations go to our brilliant Technical and Professional students who retained their crown as the best in the North East at the annual CIOB Student Challenge Competition.

The team consisting of Jack Smith and Harry Emmerson from Geoffrey Robinsons, Alexis Burn from Seymour Civil Engineering, Louis Anderson from Persimmon Homes, and Bryn Suggest and Adam Middleton from Redcar and Cleveland Council (pictured) all were commended on the day for their excellent research skills, presentation, attitude and teamwork, all essential in industry.

A large volume of praise must go to the three members of staff Alex Horton Brian Rose and Paul Lonsdale who pick the teams and prepare them for the days task which this year involved a real life construction task set by the Home groups Victoria Lane who is Senior Development and Delivery manager. The judges on the day included members of the CIOB along with the Architect of the project who travelled all the way from London to be part of the event.

A huge thanks to Tony Bellamy CIOB Chair, Tom Lamb CIOB vice-Chair and Dianne Moore members services for their excellent organisation of the event.

​We entered 2 strong Technical & Professional Teams who faced some tough competition to retain the award. The winning students will now be off to the CIOB Annual Ball as part of their prize which also included individual Amazon vouchers. We must also thank the judges for the day and great sponsor RE:GEN.
