We are thrilled to announce that our Gateway to Construction programme, delivered in partnership with Seymour Skills Academy, has been shortlisted for a prestigious national award. Recognition from the Apprenticeship and Training Awards’ Best Workplace Readiness Scheme highlights the incredible success of this initiative.
This programme is designed to equip individuals aged 19 and above with the essential skills and certifications needed to build successful careers in the construction industry. “We're incredibly proud to be shortlisted for this national award," said Gary Riches, our Vice Principal. "The Gateway to Construction programme demonstrates our commitment to providing high-quality, industry-focused training that directly addresses the needs of both learners and employers, transforming lives in the process."
Delivered by experienced trainers from both College and Seymour Skills Academy, the programme offers a powerful combination of practical skills training and professional development, ensuring participants are fully job-ready upon completion. This six-week, full-time programme provides a comprehensive introduction to the construction industry. Key areas of training include Health and Safety, CSCS card training, NRSWA Streetworks, Excavator operation, and Dumper and Ride-on Roller training.
The success of this programme has attracted Town Deal funding from Hartlepool Borough Council, enabling us to continue expanding its reach and impact. Donna King, Manager at Seymour Skills Academy, added: "The Gateway to Construction curriculum was specifically designed to address the growing skills gap and the challenges posed by an ageing workforce in the construction sector. We are passionate about providing opportunities to the long-term unemployed, disadvantaged, and hard-to-reach groups. Together, we have proudly supported over 750 learners to progress into skilled and practical employment, with 75 per cent of them securing roles directly in the construction and engineering sectors.”
We are looking forward to the Apprenticeship and Training Awards Gala Dinner, which takes place on Tuesday, 11th March 2025, at the ACC in Liverpool. This prestigious event will celebrate national finalists and recognise excellence in apprenticeships and training.
