Celebrating Results Success

From university offers and top T Level grades to hard-earned GCSE passes, students across Hartlepool College have recently celebrated results that reflect their commitment, progress and ambition.

Over the past two weeks we have been incredibly proud to celebrate the achievements of students across Level 2 and Level 3 programmes, T Levels and GCSE English and maths. These results have opened doors to university, further study, apprenticeships and employment. They also tell stories of personal progress, resilience and students refusing to give up. One of this year’s standout achievements came from Josh Willoughby, who secured a Grade 7 in GCSE English. Josh joined the College with a Grade 1 before progressing to a Grade 3 last year. His latest result shows what students can achieve through determination, ambition and the right support.

T Level Health students achieved an excellent set of results after combining two years of classroom learning with industry placements. We have continuously had outstanding stories coming from this programme at the College, and this year was no exception. Ebony Scott will progress to Teesside University to study Children’s Nursing, while Lucie-Lu Foster is heading to Sunderland University to train as a paramedic. Lily Noble will study Adult Nursing at Teesside University. Libby Bradbrook will begin paramedic training at Sunderland University, while Gracie Foster will study Children’s Nursing at Teesside University. This suite of university offers demonstrates the incredible potential of studying a T Level qualification at the College.

Their tutor, Emma Campbell, praised the group’s commitment throughout the programme. “The Year 2 students have shown commitment, hard work and resilience throughout their 2 years of study. We are so proud of them all and look forward to seeing how they progress as future healthcare professionals.”

The success continued among the College’s Year 1 T Level Health students. Amber Flounders achieved an outstanding A grade, providing a strong foundation as she prepares to enter the second year of the programme. Lecturer Stephanie Bolton said: “We as a team are extremely proud of them all. This is the best set of Year 1 results we have had to date.”

Students on the T Level Education and Early Years programme also celebrated strong results across both years of study. Kelsey Murgatroyd achieved a Distinction after setting herself that goal at the beginning of the programme. She will now study Primary Education with SEND at Sunderland University. Kelsey has also secured work as a teaching assistant through an agency, allowing her to continue gaining classroom experience.

Amy Travis achieved a Merit and has secured a place at Sunderland University to study Primary Education. Alongside her degree, Amy will work within a local primary school as she develops her future career in education. Lucie Fletcher completed her first year with a Grade B overall and an A* in her Employer Set Project.

Several other Year 1 students produced similarly strong results; Phoebe Iley achieved an A overall and an A* in her Employer Set Project, scoring 89 out of 90 marks - an exceptional achievement. Following her second year, Phoebe hopes to study at university and pursue a career in primary education. Katie Cameron achieved an A overall after progressing directly from the College’s 14 to 16 provision onto the T Level programme. Alexis Coleman achieved a B overall and an A* in her Employer Set Project. These excellent results reflect the commitment shown by T Level students throughout their studies, placements and preparation for their future careers, as well as the quality of education delivered by our staff.

Some of the College’s most inspiring stories came from students completing GCSE English and maths. Josh Nicholson achieved Grade 5 in both subjects after progressing from an Entry Level English group. His tutor, Sam Costello, described him as an “absolute superstar”. Sam said: “Josh has superb creative writing and has shown a real desire to get better. We’re incredibly proud of him.”

Josh added: “I’m really happy and proud of myself. I’m excited to begin Level 2 Carpentry and Joinery in September.” Harvey Metcalfe and Ben Blakelock both achieved Grade 4 in GCSE maths after showing remarkable determination and hard work: it was Harvey’s seventh attempt and Ben’s third. Harvey completed his qualification alongside his apprenticeship at the College. We're incredibly proud of both Harvey and Ben.

Will Pearson also achieved Grade 4 in GCSE maths, with tutors describing him as a wonderful learner. Kiera Little passed both GCSE English and maths with Grade 4, while Sonny Watson achieved Grade 4 in maths. Katie Glendenning also gave the College another reason to celebrate by sharing her joy at achieving a fantastic Grade 4 pass with our lecturers on the day - the result of exceptional resilience and commitment.

Strong GCSE results achieved at secondary school helped Morgan Hughes become the College’s first enrolment for September. Morgan achieved a combination of Grades 6 and 5 before enrolling on a Plumbing course. After gaining work experience in the trade, he discovered a passion for plumbing and decided to follow in the footsteps of his dad, who was also an apprentice at the College. To mark becoming the first enrolment of the year, Morgan received a voucher for the College’s Flagship Restaurant.

These achievements represent much more than grades. They reflect the work students have put into their studies, the support provided by teaching teams and the personal challenges many learners have overcome.

Everyone at Hartlepool College is proud of what the students have achieved and we look forward to following their next steps into further study, university, apprenticeships and employment.
