College plays host to high profile event

We were delighted to play host to a Technology Day put on by JDR Cables. The cables specialist, which supplies products to a number of industries from its base on Hartlepool’s dockland, invited around 30 customers and representatives from businesses on its supply chain to the College to showcase its latest product.

The business, which is recognised as one of the most high-profile in the region, has a strong relationship with the College having taken apprentices from the campus over recent years. Tom Nightingale, Strategy & Marketing Manager for JDR Cables, said: “We are showcasing our new 66kv renewable energy cable technology, and we combined our visit to the College with a tour of our facilities.

“We chose to use Hartlepool College of Further Education as it has great, modern facilities, and it also helps us to further strengthen our partnership with the College. We have taken apprentices from the College in the past who have been very successful, and we have aspirations to develop a diverse range of skills in the future. We have used the College for smaller events in the past, but as the basis of this event was around education it seemed appropriate to hold it here.”

During the event, delegates were shown presentations in one of the College’s conference areas before enjoying lunch at the on-site Flagship Restaurant.

Andrew Steel, Assistant Principal at Hartlepool College of Further Education, said: “JDR Cables is a fantastic  Hartlepool business which has continued to develop and grow on a global scale despite some difficult periods in the business world. They are at the forefront of developments in the renewable energy sector and we are proud to be associated with JDR Cables through our apprenticeship schemes and new renewable energy programmes. That relationship between both organisations is very strong and we are working together on some exciting projects which will benefit skills development and employment opportunities for the people of Hartlepool and the region.  It is very pleasing to be able to host an event like this where JDR Cables is inviting senior figures from its customer and supply chain from across the country which allows us to showcase to businesses what we have on offer here at Hartlepool College of Further Education.”
