The creative talents of the College’s Art & Design team, paired with the craftsmanship of our joinery students, provided the perfect, professional set for a recent sell-out Hartlepool show. Amy Richardson’s Studio’s Level Up played five sell-out shows at the Town Hall theatre, recently, with college staff and students supporting by creating the set and props for the high energy performance.
Level Up saw students from Amy Richardson’s Studio perform a wide variety of dance and musical theatre numbers. It was these musical theatre numbers that really benefited from the college input. Dance studio Principal, Amy, said “The College staff and students have been great. They’ve taken our ideas and added their creative flair with the result being the most amazing set designs. This added a real professional look to our show, the quality was amazing. The staff from the Art & Design School at the College look to different projects to develop their students’ skills. Lecturer, Richard Peacock, said “We look to provide opportunities to stretch and challenge our students not only creatively but professionally. This was a challenging task, requiring working on large scales and with different materials to support the quick set changes. We are thrilled with the outcome and it’s great to get such fantastic feedback”.
Alongside set designs, the Art & Design team, along with staff and students from the Joinery course created a variety of props. Assistant Principal, Shaun Hope, commented “This has been a great project for our students to undertake. Not only does it provide an exciting opportunity for our students to develop their skills it also develops the local community. Hartlepool is a creative place to work, live and study and we are thrilled to be an important part of that”.
