Cleveland Fire Brigade is looking for 10 recruits to undertake its new Firefighter Apprenticeship Scheme in an innovative partnership with us.
As part of the Government’s apprenticeship reforms, the Brigade, CFB Risk Management Services and ourselves have developed a programme for young people to develop the knowledge and skills needed to keep local communities and industry safe. As the country’s officially second-best General FE Apprenticeship provider, with over five decades of delivery experience, the College was an obvious choice for the ambitious scheme.
The Firefighter Apprenticeship programme will run for an 18 month fixed term period. Due to the high risk nature of the work applicants will need to be 18 years of age before the start date of the apprenticeship programme on 5th June 2017. Following an initial training period, they will be required to work on a shift based system, so it is essential that they must be prepared to work days, nights, weekends and bank holidays as required.
The training programme is aligned to qualifications which include BTEC and NVQ awards as well as Health and Safety and Medical. Following the initial training programme, apprentices will join a team based at a fire station or industrial location, and will be rotated for purposes of experience. At the same time they will continue training towards completing their apprenticeship.
Ian Hayton, Chief Fire Officer of Cleveland Fire Brigade, said: “We are committed to providing employment opportunities and hope that the Firefighter Apprenticeship Programme will appeal to people interested in working within our communities to improve safety awareness, help prevent fires and other incidents and promote fire safety. In return, we can offer them an exciting and challenging programme that will earn them valuable skills for life and qualifications that can help them as they move forward in their careers.”
The closing date for applications is 30 March. For more information on the apprenticeship scheme, rates of pay, skills needed from candidates and details of the recruitment process visit www.clevelandfire.gov.uk/recruitment/vacancies
