This week Students from across the region have been putting on the style and competing in three inter-college competitions to test their skills in the fields of Hair, Beauty and Media Make-Up. The annual skills competition now in its 4th year took place here at Hartlepool College of Further Education. Facing the hosting Hartlepool team were competitors from Middlesbrough College, Darlington College, Bishop Auckland College, East Durhan College, New College Durham, Gateshead College and Stockton Riverside College.
The competitions took place over the morning, with judging just after noon, and included: Ladies Evening Hair Style, 1940s Make Up and Editorial/Red Carpet Glamour. Independent judge Kate Pymm of Kate Pymm Make-Up said “This was a fantastic competition and it’s great, from an industry perspective, to see so many students showcasing their skills. I have been overwhelmed by the high standard of entries.”
The winner of the Ladies Evening Hair Style Competition was our own Liam Best, with the runner up Samantha Twist of New College Durham. Heather Brown from Middlesbrough College took 1st place for the 1940's Make Up Competition, with Jessica Goodwin of East Durham College taking 2nd Place. The Editorial/Red Carpet Glamour Comp was won by Valerie Ivanova from Gateshead College with our own Toni Woolston taking 2nd place, so well done to our brilliant students for their 1st and 2nd places and all those students who took part in the Competition.
Event host and Hartlepool College Hairdressing Lecturer Mandy Sisson said, “It’s great to see this event grow in terms of colleges taking part and the number of students competing. From the gallery of photos available everyone will be able to see what a high standard has been created. A huge thanks to our employer links that gave up their time to support the event and to give such worthwhile feedback.”
