Students embrace international work placements in Spain through government-funded Turing Scheme

Twenty of our exceptional Health and Early Years students have recently returned from a life-changing three-week experience in Seville, Spain, where they gained valuable international work experience in various health, social care, and childcare settings.

The trip was fully funded by the UK Government’s Turing Scheme, giving students the chance to develop professional skills in an international setting while experiencing Spanish culture and working practices. Named after British mathematician Alan Turing, the scheme supports opportunities for young people to work and study abroad, helping to promote social mobility and broaden horizons.

Throughout February, students were placed in various healthcare and childcare environments across Seville, allowing them to compare different approaches to care while developing their practical skills. The experience also provided valuable cultural immersion, with students exploring the vibrant city of Seville and adapting to life in southern Spain.

The Turing Scheme trip also revealed the opportunities for two-way knowledge exchange and development, as our students didn’t just take away learning from their placements, but had a direct impact on their environments too. Student Charlotte Pullen attended a placement at preschool education centre, C.E.I. Mis Mochuelos. Charlotte's placement host fed back that they were ‘very happy’ that Charlotte decided to complete her placement with C.E.I Mis Mochuelos, as Charlotte has ‘shown a lot to the class from the very beginning’, and she ‘would be a good professional in this field.’

Our college’s participation in this initiative represents just one of the many ways we are enhancing students’ academic and personal growth, providing them with the skills and confidence to thrive in a global environment. We are committed to offering our students world-class, inclusive education and development opportunities, preparing them for success in international workplaces.
