19+ Support Funds (2025/26)

Financial Support 19+

Who can Apply?

Funding is available to provide support to learners aged 19+ on 31st August 2025 who are experiencing financial barriers associated with participation in learning. Support is available to both full-time and part-time eligible students on accredited courses. Students enrolled to higher education courses or waged apprenticeship programmes are not eligible for financial support from these funds.

Travel Costs

Support with Travel Costs

Students who live 1.5 miles or more from Hartlepool College of Further Education whose annual household income is below £40,000 can apply for help with travel costs. 

Transport will be funded via the most practical means of public transport. Students travelling from areas where there are no direct public transport links within reasonable distance should contact student services at the college to discuss bespoke travel options.This may include petrol costs paid at £0.45p per mile.

Additional Travel Support

If you are unable to use public transport due to registered disabilities/health conditions, you may be eligible for further assistance. For more information, please contact student services.

 

Free Meals

Support with Free Meals

Students whose annual household income is below £40,000 may receive free meals in College. 

 

Additional Support

Additional Financial Support

Students whose annual household income is below £40,000 can apply for:

  • Support towards the cost of essential materials, books, and equipment (when not already provided free by the College).
  • Help with cost of attending university interviews/open days and UCAS application fees.

 

Childcare

    Childcare whilst you study

    • Students aged under 20 with childcare needs should apply to Care to Learn. Please use this link to complete our application form. Further Information can be found on the government website, www.gov.uk/care-to-learn
    • Learners aged 20+, whose household income is below £40,000 per year, can apply for childcare costs for registered childminders, nurseries and after-school clubs which are Ofsted-registered. This is to facilitate lessons in college and attendance at compulsory placements.

     

    Advanced Learner Loans

    Advanced Learner Loan

    You can apply for an Advanced Learner loan to help with the cost of course fees at Level 3 and above. Loan eligibility does not depend on your income and there are no credit checks. For further information please contact us or visit  https://www.gov.uk/advanced-learner-loan
