175yrs Celebrated

In November, here at Hartlepool College we proudly hosted our 31st Annual Celebration of Achievement awards ceremony, a key date in our calendar that this year marked a significant milestone: 175 years of delivering education to the people of Hartlepool and beyond. The event, aptly titled '175', celebrated the College’s legacy of transforming lives since 1849. Over the decades, tens of thousands of successful students have passed through our doors, and this year's ceremony paid tribute to their achievements. The audience, both in-person and those joining via a #livestream on our dedicated YouTube channel, reflected on the profound impact education has had on the hartlepool, the region and beyond.

Passing the Candle, Lighting the Torch

Our Principal, Darren Hankey, often reflects on and recites these words from Irish playwright and George Bernard Shaw: "Life is no brief candle to me. It is a sort of splendid torch which I have got hold of for the moment, and I want to make it burn as brightly as possible before handing it on to future generations." This philosophy finds its perfect expression in this story of Steve Sowerby and Cameron Wren. After 34 years of teaching, Steve is retiring, and his former student Cameron is stepping into his role as a lecturer. It’s a tale of mentorship, dedication, and continuity, and epitome of our mission to transform lives,

Building a Cleaner Future

We were proud to host a landmark event, marking a significant step in our region's journey towards a clean energy future. We welcomed over 150 representatives from local, regional, national, and international organisations, all eager to learn about the exciting opportunities presented by X-energy's proposed nuclear new build project in Hartlepool. Organised by X-energy and Cavendish Nuclear, the event aimed to showcase how businesses from across Teesside and the UK can support the multi-billion pound project, which plans to build a fleet of advanced modular nuclear reactors (AMRs) in our area.
