Target audience 

Students who have completed a Level 3 Hairdressing course and are interested in managing or setting up their own business

Entry requirements 

  • Level 3 Hairdressing qualification
  • English and Mathematics at a Level 4 or above
Course content 

The course has been designed to reflect the combination of theoretical and practical knowledge and experience required in the hairdressing sector. Students will study modules developing both practical and theoretical skills, library research skills, study skills and personal development planning are built into the course. Opportunities for developing skills of reflective practice are also in-built throughout the year. As part of the course students will be expected to work out of hours, this is industry relevant as many organisations run events on evenings and weekends.
Students will have the opportunity to access the salons for their practical modules. The College has two salons and a reception area. Furthermore, the salons are both fully working salons with regular customers, requesting a variety of treatments

Teaching & Learning 

Modules will be taught throughout the year; at Level 4 all the modules are year-long.  Students will be taught over a 2 day period.

Level 5 - Semesters

Assessment criteria 

An exciting variety of assessment methods have been designed to monitor the development of students in alignment with the assessment criteria and in collaboration with the salon needs. Portfolios and journals will record and highlight the importance of professional development within the sector. Practical delivery and observation will allow students to reflect on their practical skills. An innovative approach to assessment is evident with industry-led tasks which are current to the industry and vital to produce a more industry ready learner; this coincides with a large number of employee needs. A number of other methods such as essays, reports, presentations and reflections will be used to improve the academic skills of each student and prepare them for progression

Progression 

Students will have the opportunity to progress onto a Level 6 in Business at Teesside University, this will provide them with an opportunity to achieve a full degree in a 3-year period

You are able to apply online for all courses, however to complete your course enrolment fully, you will need to have an interview and then be accepted onto a course. The only courses available to enrol online are Full Cost courses, if you wish to enrol on any other course please call into Student Services or call 01429 295000.
