Target audience
Suitable for anyone wanting to work with children between the ages of 0-7 years. This qualifies to count in the level 2 ratio as a qualified Level 2 Practitioner in the roles of:-
- Nursery Practitioner
- Classroom assistant
- Pre School Practitioner
Entry requirements
- A DBS check will be necessary
- A placement in an early years setting for two days every week is essential

- Roles and responsibilites of the Early Years Practitioner
- Health and safety of babies and young children in the early years
- Equality, diversity and inclusive practice in Early Years Settings
- Safeguarding, protection and welfare of babies and young children in Early Years Settings
- Understand how to support children's development
- Support care routines for babies and young children
- Support the planning and delivery of activities, purposeful play opportunities and educational programmes
- Promote play in an Early Years Setting
- Support the well-being of babies and young children for healthy lifestyles
- Support babies and young children to be physically active
- Support the needs of babies and young children with Special Educational Needs and Disability
- Promote positive behaviour in Early Years Settings
- Partnership working in the early years
- Support the needs of the child in preparing for school
Teaching & Learning
- learners will attend College one evening a week for the underpinning knowledge of the programme
- learners will also need a practical placement for 2 days every week and collate a portfolio of evidence
Assessment criteria
- Learners will complete written assessment tasks for each unit
- Learners will be assessed in the work environment by an assessor
- Learners must successfully achieve both the written tasks and their practical experience in order to successfully complete the programme
Progression
Progression to Level 3 Diploma for the Early Years Practitioner (Early Years Educator)
Other information
- All students will be required to complete a DBS check
- There is an expectation that students will work in their own time to complete the necessary reading, homework and assessment work
