Husband and Wife Paula and Alan Hooks typify our #TransformingLives mission statement and have nothing but praise for the help Hartlepool College has given them to help them transform thier lives, both currently studying BSc Degrees at Teesside University.
Paula (50),an ex English Martyrs School student, decided to transform her life when her Dad became ill. She witnessed the inspiring support given by an Occupational Therapist who enabled her Dad to remain at home through his illness and how important that was to the whole family.
Pauls says; 'I wanted to be able to make a difference to peoples’ lives, as the Occupational Therapist did for my dad."
Now in her 2nd year of BSc in Occutpational Therapy, Paula is on the path to becomming an Occupational Therapist, having made her first step enrolling on a Access to Health course her at Hartlepool College, of which she says, “For a mature student looking to make the step into a new career, the access course was perfect for me. It prepared me so well for University, the modules were so relevant and they were expertly delivered by the wonderful staff."
At the same time her husband Alan found himself at a crossroads after losing his Driving Licence, due to a medical condition he was no longer able to continue his job as a delivery driver. Inspired by Paula’s lead he enrolled on the Access to Education (programme which he says: "gave me a great foundation, especially with regards to academic writing and referencing, as well as the much needed confidence to know I can achieve at that level.” That foundation has motivated Alan who is now in his 2nd year of his BSc in Sociology.

With the drive and determination to succeed, coupled with the brilliant Access programmes delivered by our wonderful staff, you can see they are following their passions and transforming their lives.”
