School leavers can benefit from new opportunities that will combine high-quality technical education with industry experience. In September 2023, the College will launch its first T Level qualifications in Health, Early Years, Engineering and Construction.
T Levels are a new two-year course, being introduced by the government, primarily aimed at 16 to 19-year-old learners. The equivalent to three A levels, they are a level 3 technical option that combines classroom-based learning with a strong element of on-the-job training through a 45-day industry placement.
Every T-level is taught through a mix of classroom and workplace-based learning. Students spend 80% of their time at school or college and 20% of their time developing the skills needed for the workplace on a 45-day industry placement.
The industry placement is designed to help students:
- find out more about the career opportunities open to them
- build essential skills, such as teamwork and communication, for their future employment
- put their skills and knowledge into practice in the real world of work, and build contacts with with employers
This understanding of the real world of work is incredibly valuable. As well as helping students to make more informed choices about their career pathway, they will gain experience that employers look for when it comes to hiring.
In the academic year 2023/24, the College will be launching T levels in Health, Early Years, Engineering and Construction.
Each of these curriculum areas plan to launch specific T Level pathways that are relevant to the demands of the regional economy for the respective sectors.
More information on each T Level can be found in the Associated Documents at the foot of this page.
We know making these decisions is never easy. Throughout the year the College will be hosting T-Level events to find out more.
